Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in the fields of film, television and theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from The Showtime program Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won the Best Actress award in a Maryland high school contest. She received her degree in acting at New York University after working at 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as on stage. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her debut major role. It was followed by other films such as 'Boogie Nights Spark and Blue Streak. Soul Food, her TV show was highly regarded because of the performances she performed. Her TV appearances included Second Time Around and Empire. She appeared on stage in several productions early in her career. Parker is tied to Boris Kodjoe, an actor and model. The couple has two children.
Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She had already experienced numerous travel experiences and different cultures at a very young age. She attended boarding school between the ages of 7 until 9 in London. After that, she and her family returned to Toronto (Canada) which is where they lived for the rest of her childhood. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as ballet dancer of classical training. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school in which she studied more than just dance but also theater. When she was 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. When she graduated from high school she received a full-time grant to attend the University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was given the role of lead. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows she appeared in. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year from Canadian critics. Contractor accepted the invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. There are only eight males and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured for the following season of shows, and she landed Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
